What do you love about the Broadband industry
We are collectively living in a unique time when we can help change lives by providing products and solutions that deliver broadband services to undeserved communities that have never previously had a high bandwidth offering, and/or assisting customers to provide a lower cost option for higher bandwidth. Bridging the digital divide levels the playing field and enables a large percentage of the US population who reside outside of urban areas to have affordable equal access to information, resources and connectivity. I grew up in a rural area, surrounded by dairy farms in Upstate New York. I know many people who started out in life at an economic disadvantage because a lack of opportunities for higher education. Broadband can facilitate and open educational opportunities to those people. This is a very big deal that should be put in the appropriate perspective, not unlike the days when electric power utility services were extended to rural areas.
How has the industry evolved over your career, looking back what is most surprising?
In some ways, my role at Precision Group is returning me to where I started in the telecommunications industry. In my early days working for CLECS we were building out fiber-optic networks. Then the growth in the wireless industry created opportunities to solve RF coverage and capacity problems to offer ubiquitous coverage, both outdoor and inside buildings. Now, much of the US has RF coverage and at least 2 wireless carrier options to meet their mobile coverage needs, but do not come remotely close to meeting those consumers’ capacity needs. Unfortunately, the wireless carriers simply can not meet consumers’ bandwidth needs and expectations, even if their bold 5G coverage marketing claims matched actual 5G network coverage.
So, what is most surprising is no matter how much wireline and wireless telecommunications providers spend building out networks, they can not keep up with consumers’ insatiable demand for bandwidth. Therein, lies the opportunity!
What does your favorite Saturday look like?
My favorite Saturday depends on the season. I am blessed to live in an area where there is a significant change in seasons. In the spring, I enjoy fishing. In the summer, I enjoy driving to the ocean for a day at the beach with my family or having them over for a BBQ on my patio, or camping in coastal Maine. In the fall, I enjoy going to watch Penn State football game and deer hunting. In the winter, I enjoy snowboarding with family and friends.
What hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
See above: Fishing, hunting, camping, snowboarding
Tell us something about yourself people may not know?
I love history! I descend from family who were early settlers. They arrived from England aboard The Diligent, which was the 16th ship after The Mayflower. It landed in Massachusetts in 1638. I have ancestors that fought in the American Revolution and The Civil War, one died in the 2nd day of Battle at Gettysburg and another as a POW in SC. My 9th Great Grandmother was Rebecca Nurse, one of the “witches” hanged during The Salem Witch Trials.
What was your 10 year-old-self’s dream job?
I did not dream about jobs at 10 years old. I had chores, played sports and went fishing as much as possible.
Why are you excited about working at Precision Group?
I am excited to contribute to significant revenue growth for Precision Group in the Northeast. I evaluated other employment options and the culture at Precision Group is very appealing to me. Many companies talk about their culture, but don’t really create and maintain a culture that they claim. I have experienced a variety of company cultures in both small and large companies. I have a very strong feeling Precision Group is authentic in truly valuing a respectful team environment for all employees.
Do you have a motto or personal mantra?
“Nothing happens until somebody sells something!”
I have always been on the “Revenue Generation Team”. I personally feel the weight of responsibility to generate revenue to support not only myself and my family, but also all the other employees and their families who are not directly in sales.
What would be the title of your autobiography?
